Springer Spaniel – Wonderful Dogs, Constant Companions

English Springer Spaniel is an intelligent dog who catch on to new things easily. The Springer Spaniel is an ideal dog for country or city life. Springers are people pleasers. They love to be around people, and they are energetic, loving companions. Playful and energetic, the Springer Spaniel can bring its owner many hours of amusement. With proper training the can excel in agility, tracking, retrieving, obedience, hunting, and field trials. They are great with children and are an excellent pick for families. Adult supervision of children around any breed of dog is necessary to ensure the dog doesn’t become irritated.

Owners will be satisfied with a Springer because they are so friendly and eager to please. Their temperment has been compared to the popular Golden Retriever. They are happy to just be with their family even if that means just lying around the house. Human contact helps them to adjust and adapt to different levels of activity. Being a long breeder of a variety of puppies, we can attest to their absolute friendliness.

As a breed, the English Springer Spaniel is a medium sized sporting dog, and can weigh anywhere from 35-55 pounds at adulthood. They are typically healthy dogs that live happy lives that average about 10-14 years on average. There are two types of Springer Spaniels, those that are field bred, and those that are show bred. The field bred variety has a shorter coat and a more active temperament than the show bred variety. All Springers have their tails docked shortly after birth, but the length of the tail differs between two “lifestyles.” The tails are docked shorter for Springers who are shown, whereas the working, field-bred Springers have longer tails so as to be an efficient signal for hunting.

A purebred English Springer Spaniel has a coat color of either liver and white or black and white. The tri-color coloration of black, liver, and white, is quite rare and will usually occur when the sire and dam are both tri-color. These are easily recognised by the white flash that runs down the middle of their faces.

Bred to be natural hunter, English Springer Spaniels, have alot of energy so you can expect them to enjoy running aroung, sniffing out “game” and retrieving things for you. Springers have long been used as waterfowl and small game hunting dogs so they enjoy outdoor activities and being around water. Because they are an old breed, they have been a favorite canine for many years. These dogs are the oldest but best hunting breed around.

Hopefully, you can understand the reasons that we believe Springers are a good option for a variety of lifestyles. We certainly believe and have experienced how these loving animals can find a place in anyone’s heart and home.
