Pest Control Liverpool and Merseyside
Pest Control in Liverpool and Wirral has seen a relatively early start this year which is somewhat surprising given the somewhat colder (weather of this last winter|winter of 2009/10}.
Merseyside Pest operatives were kept busy with the standard city centre rats and mice calls during the winter of 2009/10, but the quite cold late winter has already brought some black ant calls reported.
The rainy summers of the last couple of years were not to the liking of the hymenoptera (bees, ants, sawflies and wasps) but 2010 looks like it will turn out to be a active year for ant calls.
Regularly ants build nests under the floors of homes and inside cavity walls causing an army of foraging ants to enter food store areas.
However it is at the mating time when they are at their most annoying as they release winged queens and males which then mate in flight.
The appearance of several thousands of these flying ants inside your house can be traumatic indeed.
A somewhat new pest was quite troublesome in the Merseyside area last year, the Varied Carpet Beetle (Anthrenus verbasci).
It was not common for pest operatives in Liverpool and Wirral to deal with these pests until lately but they seemed to arrive from nowhere in 2008 and already this spring has seen reports of these beetles in substantial numbers.
These insects have a similar life cycle to moths their larvae, called woolly bears can eat natural fibres and can do great damage to carpets and all fabrics. They are a difficult and tricky pest to remove.
Those of us who work in in pest control Liverpool note that Bed Bugs are carrying on their come back in the Cheshire, Lancashire and Manchester area, often arriving as unwanted guests in the suitcases of returning holiday makers.
Regularly the first reaction of those unfortunates who realise that they are infested with these horrible,blood-sucking pests is to burn the old beds and get.
This is a costly error as despite their name bed bugs do not just stay in beds and in an infested bedroom will be found everywhere within about five yards of the bed, in cupboards, drawers etc, even in electrical sockets and the new beds are quickly re-infested.
Many people confuse bed bugs with dust mites which are not visible to the naked eye. They both require a different method of pest control
They dine exclusively on blood which they drink from their sleeping victims. People usually associate bed bugs with unhygienic conditions but nothing could be less true, they do not need dirt, their food is you!
