Centre Caps: Not Only Necessary But Smart
Centre Caps: Not Only Needed But Fashionable
When it comes to branding options, car manufacturers have a lot of distinct ways to ensure that cars are marked as a unique manufacture, such as putting the company or car’s logo on a variety of different points. One of the most popular is the centre of the wheel, which is called a wheel center cap. Wheel center caps, regrettably, take a lot of wear and tear through normal, day to day operation, and can often get bumped or scratched.
If you have a car that’s missing a wheel centre cap, it looks a little bit odd – the wheels are uneven, the lug nuts may or may not be revealed, and it looks a little bit unfinished. Fortunately, there’s a thriving after market of substitute center caps that can be bought and put on your car. These can range from original factory substitutions to custom-built wheel caps constructed around a theme. It is the little particulars that make a car look complete, and one of the easiest ways to better the resale value of your car is to put back the wheel caps – it’s something that most people subconsciously react to as a mark for ‘well managed for vehicle’.
Many people, after doing a little bit of research, discover that most rims – even those of different sizes – have cap mounting points in common. It might be a little comic to imagine placing Chevy center caps on the rims of a GEO, but it’s perfectly possible. Most wheel centre caps are constructed from chrome moly alloy, although now there are some made from stamped stainless steel or extruded aluminum.
Purchasing stock replacements isn’t even the only option. There are numerous companies out there that sell custom wheel caps, many of which are creative and ornamental. Some of these have authorized logos, such as your beloved sports team or college campus. Others are more artistic, musical, or even spiritual in nature. Since wheel center caps can be individualized, nearly any kind of art you like is feasible, such as your initials or message with meaning to you.
Before going for that custom look, however, you must know not only the diameter of your automobile rims but where and how the caps attach before you spend your money. With the internet you’re able to find the model of car, the make of tires, and find if they come with four, five, or six mounting nuts, if they simply screw on or have an applique system for the centre cap.
Wheel center caps aren’t merely ornamental, they’re also important to the safety of your car. They shield the nuts that keep your rim on the car from corroding. It’s also a lot easier to change a tire this way, since prying off rusty lugnuts in the rain if you have to change a flat isn’t the most pleasurable thing in the world, so that’s another necessary function of wheel centre caps.
